Summer Institute - GREAT Opportunity for Summer TravelPosted: 09/09/2008 A message from Royace Aiken, Science Education Specialist, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory:There are great professional development and educational opportunities available at US Department of Energy Laboratories for students attending community colleges and junior colleges. The Community College Institute (CCI) in Science and Engineering provides 10-week summer research experiences for students at two-year academic institutions. These students do not have to compete against students at four-year colleges and universities for summer research appointments at DOE laboratories. Students can receive stipends ($400/week for 10 weeks), $1,000 housing allowances, and travel allowances ($500). These opportunities have potential benefits for both the academic institutions and the DOE National Laboratories. For every NSF-funded student we place in a summer research position at our Laboratories, we can provide funding for another student from a campus that does not have a NSF grant on their campus. Please access important information through this web site: http://www.scied.science.doe.gov/scied/CCI/about.html I manage the CCI program and am particularly interested in hosting one of more students from your campus this summer. I would like for you to select a student or students from your campus to apply for the CCI program at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, WA. We usually host about 25 community college students from institutions across the United States each summer in our research programs. If you do select a student or students for the CCI program, please contact me regarding the student's application, so I can make specific efforts to market the application. The attached document contains a flyer advertising the CCI program. Please click for CCI Flyer We are looking forward to hosting another great student from Genesee CC in our CCI program! Royace E.
